Awesome carnivorous plant of Costa Rica – Utricularia endresii

Utricularia endresii is an epiphytic hemizoovorous (carnivorous) plant, distributed in Costa Rica, Panama and some South American countries from 200-1500 meters above sea level, in areas with little availability of nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium for the roots. Its trap is water through utricles, small vesicles located on its roots with cells that protect it (lower left corner), growing mainly on moss and very humid areas. The utricles, when are stimulated by some insect, they dilate and begin with their cells to absorb the organism, until they die of starvation, to later be degraded, and these release different nitrogenous components, which would be commonly taken from the root.

Utricularia endresii es una planta hemizoóvora (carnívora) epífita, distribuida en Costa Rica, Panamá y algunos paises de América del Sur desde los 200-1500 m.s.n.m, en zonas con poca disponibilidad de nitrógeno, fosforo y calcio para las raices. Su trampa es de agua por medio de utrículos, unas pequeñas vegijas ubicadas en sus raíces con celdas que la protegen (esquina inferior izquierda), creciendo principalmente sobre el musgo y zonas muy húmedas. Los utrículos al ser estimulados por algún insecto, se dilatan y comienzan con sus celdas a absorben el organismo, hasta que mueren por inanición, para luego ser degradados, y estos liberen diferentes componentes nitrogenados, que se tomarían comunmente desde la raíz.
