Werauhia ororiensis, a unique and endangered bromeliad, native to the cloud forests of Costa Rica and Panama. This fascinating plant is known for its stunning, bright red inflorescence, which blooms only once every few years.

One of the most incredible things about Werauhia ororiensis is its unusual inflorescence, which can reach up to 2 meters in height. This structure is composed of a central stem (scape) which is covered in red bracts, and small, tubular flowers that are yellow-green in color.

This bromeliad is an epiphyte, which means it grows on other plants and derives its moisture and nutrients from the air and surrounding debris. Werauhia ororiensis is known to be a very slow-growing plant and can take up to 10 years to reach maturity.

One of the biggest threats to Werauhia ororiensis is habitat loss. The cloud forests where this plant is native are being rapidly destroyed for agriculture and development. As a result, this plant is considered to be critically endangered. It is imperative that conservation efforts are made to protect the remaining populations of this plant, and to encourage sustainable use of the cloud forests where it is found.

In conclusion, Werauhia ororiensis is a unique and endangered bromeliad that can be a real show-stopper in any forest. It’s important to keep in mind that this plant is endangered, and that we should work on protecting its natural habitat, and to not buy plants poached from the wild.
